Griffith Preparing For a Busy Florida Speedweeks

Hundreds of drivers from different racing disciplines will descend upon the state of Florida during Speedweeks next month. Defending World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing champion Derek Griffith just might be the busiest driver out of all of them.

The New Hampshire native will be back at New Smyrna to compete in a full week at the World Series in the Super Late Model, while also taking part in the ARCA Menards Series season opener just up the road at Daytona International Speedway.

While he will be able to contest most of the week without conflict, the final night of the World Series will be different. The ARCA event at Daytona is set to go green at 1:30 ET on Saturday, February 13. That puts it on the same night as the World Series finale and the biggest Super Late Model race of the week, the Orange Blossom 100.

“It could go either way, I do know Saturday’s Orange Blossom race is going to be in direct conflict with the ARCA race over at Daytona. I might be able to shoot over there after the ARCA race and make something happen, it’s a 50/50,” Griffith told Speed51’s “The Bullring.” “If I have to start at the tail of the Orange Blossom to hold on to a title, then I’m totally going to do it. If I can’t, then I can’t. I’ll figure out whether I can do that or not and I won’t lose too much sleep.”

After competing in eight ARCA events for Chad Bryant Racing in 2020, he moves over to Venturini Motorsports for two races this year, including the season opener at Daytona. Griffith took to a Superspeedway for the first time over the weekend in ARCA’s preseason open test.

Two days following the test, Griffith was still left in awe of the historic 2.5 mile facility.

“It was unreal even just to pull in through the tunnel and see everything and really take it all in and be a part of it. To sit in the car and roll off pit road and get going, I’ll never forget it. It’s going to be a pretty wild race on February 13. We started off so small and now we’re at Daytona, it’s pretty cool for me.”

He takes a different approach to learning new tracks compared to other competitors, preferring to use a more traditional approach to new facilities.

“I just have to go out there and figure it out. I know people like sim racing, a lot of people take a lot of notes and have people help them out with lines. The only way that really helps me in the sense that it works for me is I have to drive it and go out there and figure it out. At a place like Daytona there doesn’t seem to be a lot of driving line and changes in that sense, there a lot of tips and tricks you can pick up in the draft, that’s something I’ll have to pick people’s brains about.”

Fans in the Northeast will be able to see Griffith quite often during the 2021 season across PASS North and the Granite State Pro Stock Series. Both touring series’ have ambitious schedules for the new year, which has him excited for Super Late Model racing in the region as a whole.

“We don’t necessarily have plans, per se. We have the Pro All Stars Series up here and Granite State Pro Stock Series, and they’ve got some killer schedules this year. They’re bouncing around to some racetracks they haven’t been to in a long time.

“Granite State’s got Stafford and we have that doubleheader for the Easter Bunny, which is pretty cool. Monadnock’s on the schedule, Hudson’s on the schedule. It’s going to be a pretty cool year up here to run a fendered Pro Stock car.”

Aside from Daytona, Griffith has just one other ARCA start planned with Venturini to this point. That race will come at Kansas Speedway, the site he earned a career-best third at to end last season. With the addition of sponsor SpotOn, adding races to the schedule is not out of the question.

“There’s always possibilities. We got a new sponsor, new to the racing world really. It’s pretty cool to be introducing another sponsor to the racing world. If we can get them noticed then they’re definitely ready to do some more races. They’re getting their feet wet with Daytona and Kansas.”

January 14, 2021 (Concord, NC) – Handwork, persistence and some spot-on timing helped New Hampshire born driver Derek Griffith fulfill his desire of returning to the racetrack after making eight starts during the 2020 ARCA Menards Series season.

Teaming with Venturini Motorsports (VMS), 23-year-old, Derek Griffith, with support from San Francisco based, SpotOn, small business software and payments company, will be back behind the wheel this season in ARCA’s premier touring series for two races under the VMS banner.

Griffith, a top-10 finisher at the Snowball Derby back in December, will showcase his No.55 SpotOn Toyota Camry during the series’ season-opener at Daytona International Speedway on February 13 and again at Kansas Speedway during the May event. Both races will be televised on FS1.

“Never give up,” responded Griffith when asked about his off-season deal allowing his return to the track. “This is awesome. I’ve worked really hard during the offseason to make this moment happen. I can’t thank everyone at SpotOn enough for giving me this incredible opportunity. I’m excited to represent their brand and continue to build our relationship.”

Griffith notched two top-5 and seven top-10 finishes during his eight starts in 2020 driving the No.22 for Chad Bryant Racing in the ARCA Menards Series.

“It’s an honor to now have the opportunity to represent my sponsor racing for such a successful organization like Venturini Motorsports. They’re a great team. I’ve been talking with Billy (Venturini) for a while – I’m excited everything fell into place the way it did. I’m ready to go!”

DEREK GRIFFITH RETURNS TO ARCA RACING SERIES AT BRISTOL MOTOR SPEEDWAY

  • BRISTOL, Tenn: Competing in his first ARCA Menards Series race in nearly seven weeks, newcomer Derek Griffith heads to Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway for Thursday night’s Bush’s Beans 200 hoping to pick up right where he left off in his most recent at Toledo Speedway at the beginning of August.

Adding the doubleheader at the legendary half-mile track of Toledo Speedway, Griffith was able to capitalize on back-to-back days of racing which yielded his career-best performance of fifth in the Menards 200 presented by Crosley Brands.

With some fire under his belt with a string of four straight top-10 finishes dating back to Kentucky Speedway in July, Griffith is looking forward to invading Bristol and knocking off one of his bucket list items while searching for his first career ARCA Menards Series victory.

“I am super excited for Bristol Motor Speedway this week,” said Griffith. “First time there, but definitely a bucket list deal. I feel like I have a ton of momentum right now and hope we can capitalize on it Thursday night.”

Much like Griffith has had to embrace this season in ARCA competition because of COVID-19 protocols, track time will be limited which may seem like a downfall for Griffith – but knowing he’s largely touted as one of the finest short track racers in the country, he’s hoping to step up to the plate and deliver.

“I’d love to have a full practice and even some qualifying, but that’s just not in the cards for ARCA right now,” added Griffith. “It’s unfortunate yes, but I think I’ve proven to be a pretty fast learner this year and Bristol will be no different.

“Thankfully, I am surrounded by people who have plenty of knowledge and success at Bristol in the past, so my worry level isn’t very high at all.”

With the added mix of the ARCA Menards Series East at Bristol this week, there is no doubt that it will likely be the most stacked field of the 2020 season, but Griffith is primed and ready.

“I believe the competition is tough everywhere we go, no matter how many cars are racing,” Griffith explained. “I think we just go into the race with a level head, race hard and see how we come out.”

The ARCA Menards Series is eyeing its stretch drive for the final races of the season and while Griffith will be apart of at least two of those events at Bristol and the season-finale at Kansas Speedway, he does have goals he wants to carry out before the checkered flag waves.

“I am happy with what we’ve accomplished this season,” sounded Griffith. “I’d really like to get a real solid run at one of these bigger tracks, a top-three, ideally a win. That would be awesome.”

Between Toledo and Bristol, Griffith has been staying busy between operating his business and racing Late Models which included two wins at Claremont Motorsports Park and Lee USA Speedway in New Hampshire respectively.

This week marks the seventh event with Original Gourmet™ Food Company as the primary partner of Griffith’s No. 22 Ford Fusion.

Headquartered in Salem, New Hampshire, Original Gourmet™ has been innovating in the sweets and snack industry since 1994. Their story started with a recipe and a vision.

Their curiosity for making special blends of flavors and colors of candy became a passion for providing people with bold tasting lollipops.

Griffith’s car will be covered in a variety of the company’s 26 lollipops flavors.

Original Gourmet’s lollipops are the largest pops sold with a bright taste and bright colors – standing out from all the rest. Weighing in at 1.1 oz., these lollipops are gluten and peanut free delights that have a plastic stick and will not get soggy like all the other lollipops do.

Team owner Chad Bryant is looking forward to having Griffith back behind the wheel this week and tackling Thunder Valley.

“We expect to be fast this weekend and contending for the win,” offered Bryant. “All season long I’ve been super impressed with Derek, but heading to Bristol, he’s in a good place and I think he’ll find that Bristol is a place that fits his niche.

“Looking forward to seeing what we and bother our Chad Bryant Racing cars can do on Thursday night.”

In addition to Griffith, Kris Wright will drive a second-Chad Bryant Racing car in Thursday night’s race aboard the No. 12 vehicle.

Worst to First, Griffith Prevails!
North Woodstock NH – Twenty-nine cars took the green flag for round two of the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) Super Late Model 2020 season at White Mountain Motorsports Park (WMMP) on a hot, sweltering day with temperatures in the mid to high 80’s. Starting dead last in the field was the familiar 12G of Derek Griffith. 150 grueling laps later, Griffith pulled off the very rare worst-to-first accomplishment to take home the checkers on the high banked oval. Chasing him across the line was Tamworth’s Jeremy Davis and teenager Gabe Brown to fill out the podium. Griffith was understandably pleased with the result.

“We started off the day with some decent practice times and really liked the way the car felt. A bad draw put us at the back of our heat and we got caught up with someone else. We missed our consolation race and had to start at the back of the second consolation race.” said Griffith. “The guys really worked their butts off to get it back together and it paid off.”

Oppressive heat became its own story line in the second half of the 150 lap contest. Many teams were plagued with mechanical issues, including overheating, that sidelined a bit over half the starting field.

Griffith anticipated a mix of issues and the usual skirmishes and approached the race determined to save his equipment. “We just wanted to save our stuff for as long as possible for a late race restart.”

Griffith got his opportunity on lap 139 and powered his way to the front while contact between Ben Rowe and DJ Shaw, both early race leaders, shuffled the deck. From that point the Hudson, NH resident never looked back and cruised to his first PASS win of the year.

Jeremy Davis capitalized on the aforementioned scuffle to vault into the runner-up spot. The veteran driver started his race back in the 17th spot. Much like Griffith, Davos methodically picked his way to the front, putting himself in position to garner his first top 3 finish of the year. Center Conway’s Gabe Brown finished on the podium in the third spot. The 2018 Oxford Plain Speedway SLM Champion started the race seventh and was never outside the top 10. DJ Shaw ended up forth and Ryan Kuhn made an impressive charge to round out the top 5.

Derek Griffith #3 Draft Pick for Speed51 Short Track Draft 2020

BIG NEWS FOR DEREK GRIFFITH!

MOORESVILLE, N.C.: Chad Bryant Racing (CBR) announced today that a new partnership agreement with Original Gourmet™ Food Company will propel the team into a fulltime ARCA Menards Series East schedule with driver Derek Griffith beginning with this weekend’s Pensacola 200 presented by Inspectra Thermal Solutions at Five Flags (Fla.) Speedway.
Griffith’s No. 2 Ford Fusion will be covered in a variety of the company’s 26 lollipops flavors.
Original Gourmet’s lollipops are the largest pops sold with a bright taste and bright colors – standing out from all the rest. Weighing in at 1.1 oz., these lollipops are gluten and peanut free delights that have a plastic stick and will not get soggy like all the other lollipops do.
Original Gourmet™ prides themselves on the wide variety of flavors they offer because they are a great treat for everyone in the family.
“I am so blessed for this opportunity to represent Original Gourmet™ Food Company and compete for the ARCA Menards Series East championship,“ said Griffith. “This is a great chance to bring a new partner into the sport and bring a product that race fans can enjoy while watching our Chad Bryant Racing compete for the championship title.
“I’m eager to get to Five Flags this weekend and finish what we started at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.
Griffith, 23, returns to Chad Bryant Racing on the heels of an outstanding performance in their series’ debut together last month at New Smyrna (Fla.) Speedway.
The talented Late Model ace from the Northeast had one of the fastest cars in practice; won the pole, led a whopping 144 of the race’s 175 laps, but a late race pit stop penalty relegated Griffith to start at the rear of the field. With 31 laps remaining he was able to come from last to second.
This weekend, Griffith, a two-time finalist in the Kulwicki Driver Development program will look for his first career ARCA Menards Series East victory under the leadership of former NASCAR Cup Series crew chief Paul Andrews.
“It’s going to be a fun season,” added Griffith. “With the support of the Original Gourmet™ Food Company, we’ll not only have the opportunity to win races, but we will also contend for the series’ championship – something I didn’t think we’d be able to do. Hopefully with the strength of our team, we can put a ‘licking’ on the rest of the competition.”
Team owner Chad Bryant says he’s ecstatic to have Griffith apart of his team’s driver development program, and their performance at New Smyrna was just the start of things to come from the No. 2 Chad Bryant Racing team this season.
“Derek impressed a lot of people at New Smyrna and he’ll only continue to turn heads as the ARCA Menards Series East season marches on,” offered Bryant. “He is extremely talented and our performance last month is just a taste of what is to come from our No. 2 Chad Bryant Racing team.
“We’re happy to carry the Original Gourmet™ colors and look forward to celebrating with them a lot in 2020.”

12 vehicle.

GRIFFITH WINS AT WMMP!

12 vehicle.

GRIFFITH WINS AT WMMP!
