(Seekonk, MA) – Derek Griffith was part of one of the most exciting finishes to a Super Late Model race so far in 2016.

Griffith, the young Hudson, NH driver was driving in his second race in as many days on Wednesday as the No. 12 Hitman Industries/FEP Insurance Toyota Camry race team rolled into Seekonk Speedway for the 2015 Granite State Pro Stock Series Champions first ever visit to the 1/3-mile track.

Derek finished a disappointing 16th at Beech Ridge on Tuesday, July 12th in the Pro All Stars Series 150-lap event and was looking for a better finish at the 200-lap U.S. Pro Stock National Championship at Seekonk. The first impression of Griffith at “The Cement Palace” saw the young driver adapt quickly and was near the top of the speed charts all day.

After winning the second heat race, Derek would roll off second on the 24-car field. Derek was fast all race and was running in the top-5 for the majority of the laps. After a mechanical issue by the front runner caused a late race caution; Griffith started alongside the No. 55 of Dalton Sargeant and the two were running each other very close, in pursuit of the $10,000 first-place payday.
Derek talks about the last few laps of the race, “I kept up with Dalton for the restarts, he ran me up a couple times and then the bottom groove opened up, and I went for it. He was doing what he had to do and I was doing what I had to do. I wish we both kept the wheels straight for the finish. I can’t say thank you enough to my team and the car that they gave me, I had a car to win at the end. We wanted the win but to come home second in our first trip here is great.”

The next race for the Derek Griffith race team is at the White Mountain Motorsports Park on July 23rd for 150-laps with the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) as Derek continues his championship pursuit. Griffith currently sits in the top-10 in points and is seeking his first PASS SLM win.
