Claremont, NH – 18 year-old Derek Griffith knew the time was coming, he couldn’t pinpoint the exact race but knew that his MOM’s of Manchester/LCM Racing Toyota Camry was close to visiting victory lane.
On Saturday, April 24th, Griffith make it to victory lane in the 125-lap Granite State Pro Stock Series race. Many times before he’s been relegated to second place, this time however Derek had the car to beat, fastest in his heat race, Griffith started second in the thirteen car field.
Derek jumped out to an early lead and led the majority of laps and was really never challenged for the win. In a pre-race radio interview Griffith mentioned that this was the first time he had ever driven on the 1/3rd mile of Claremont Speedway and when asked how the car was reacting in practice, Derek remarked, “This is one of the best cars that Louie [Crew Chief Louie Mechalides] has ever given me, this may be our night.”
His night, it certainly was. Griffith would power his Tyngsboro Motors Toyota through lap traffic, which held off any potential competitors.
This is the confidence booster the No 12 race team needed as they head to Monadnock Speedway on May 23rd. Derek mentioned “We now got the monkey off our back, Now we know how to win in this series, let’s go get number two.”
