Griffith Overcomes Adversity To Finish Strong At Oxford Plains Speedway

For Immediate Release

(Oxford Plains, ME) – Derek Griffith and the No. 12 McKennedy Masonry/LCM Racing team rolled into Oxford Plains Speedway for the second race for the Pro All Stars Series (PASS) North Tour. Griffith, the reigning Granite State Pro Stock Series (GSPSS) Champion started the PASS season off on a high note by capturing a career high, second-place finish at Thompson Speedway, earlier in the month.

Griffith was one of forty-eight Super Late Models at Oxford Plains, vying for thirty-three feature starting spots. Derek drew the last number to determine his heat race starting position. Griffith was able to advance a few spots in his heat race but would come up short and would have to attempt to get into the feature through a Consolation race, Derek would finish strong in the consi. and that ensured him a starting spot in the 150-lap feature event.

Derek rolled out the Tygnsboro Motors entry and lined up in the 30th spot and had his work cut out for him. Griffith was involved in a scary moment that sent the Super Late Model careening off turn 1 in an early lap accident. Once the dust settled, Derek would find himself three laps down and with the help of his Spotter Dolly Mechalides; they would weave their way through the pack and would eventually be in the hunt for the top-10.

Griffith would scratch and crawl to get all three of his laps back, “I think we were lucky that the wreck we were involved in was so early in the race. Louie [Crew Chief Louie Mechalides] put yet another fast set-up in the car and Dolly really was on her game. This car is so fast and the more we visit these tracks, the better we’ll be. Oxford is a unique, flat 3/8th mile track. It’s really unlike any other track we race on.”

Derek was able to garner an eighteenth place finish and ended up on the lead lap. After the first two events of the year, Griffith sits seventh in points, only twenty-nine points out of the top spot.

Derek and team will now travel to the Beech Ridge Motor Speedway for the third race of the year for PASS. The scheduled day of the event is April 30th.

Griffith will also attempt to defend his GSPSS Championship when that series will kick-off their season on May 13th at the White Mountain Motorsports Park.
